This is SUCH a late post and I should've put this up ages ago but I've just been so busy and well... dreading having to pick which photos to show you guys! BUUUT now it's happening so I'm super excited to tell you all a bit about how the day went (as well as include some, not really some like a heap load, pictures for you all).
Started the day at 7.30, luckily packed my bag the night before and didn't forget anything, and headed off to the city with my dad and my sister who dropped us off at the train station. My dad and I took the train, walked and got there super early but instead I used that time to grab a coffee (hot chocolate for me hehe) and psyched myself up. Once that was over I did some street style photos outside the venue waiting to get my media pass and when I finally did, I ventured inside, 5 minutes before my first show!
I didn't even have time to put my bags in the media room (I was so excited to have access to a media room with other people who like, you know would use it haha lame I know) and headed straight to the
Alice McCall show. I stupidly searched for ages for my name on the ground when I realised, no one really stuck to them and it was a first come, first serve. I also realised that fashion shows NEVER run on time with some during the day being half an hour late. I met a fellow photographer Emelie who I hung out with during the day and made me feel much more comfortable. Then, cue white balance testing time, audience coming in and then it began. I can't even put into words what it felt like and how it was to start shooting these models. To hear all the shutters going off, the silence of the crowd and the music as they made their way down the runway I had to remember to keep shooting or I'd miss shots. I ADORED the flow of all the dresses and their simplicity with me personal fave noted in one of the photos below!
Once that was done, my next shoot was scheduled 2 hours later at 12 but instead of (stupidly) not putting my bags away I took them to check out
Serpent & The Swan. This was such an interesting show to say the least! It was an installation show with the models acting like mannequins. The music was truly eerie and the dramatic spotlights situated just above the models made for awesome and unique photos! I was so excited being in there, accidentally getting in the way of the livestream at the same time, and I wish I could've stayed longer but they kept issuing people in and out seeing as it was a somewhat small room.
Next up was the
We Are Handsome show which I was so so stoked about photographing! If you know me, I ADORE summer and wearing bikinis so I really wanted to see the swimwear for We Are Handsome. I knew as soon as I walked into the show that it would be a fun sort of show with bright pink lights already directed on the stage and not only that but, I'd come early meaning I had a prime spot for photos! Cue the upbeat music and a girl with vintage looking headphones coming down the runway the cameras started snapping. I adored the vibrant colours, the appearance of a bike just as bright and the models attitudes!
After We Are Handsome, I went to finally go put my bags down in the media room and meet up with Sarah (my boss). I finally went to go explore the rest of Carriageworks to see if I could spot me some famous people (I found Samantha Harris!). I took more Street Style photos and met this awesome blogger
Christopher Haggarty who gave me more confidence to go up and talk to people. I also handed him my business card which felt really really stupidly professional haha. When I went outside to explore, I also met up with the lovely Melissa of
flourished & sunkissed who I took photos of and chatted a bit with. Here I also met the two lovely girls
Aimee, an extremely talented and kind photographer and Bec, a quirky and cute makeup artist from Brisbane. Well they're both from Brisbane actually but Aimee now resides in Sydney! I mistakened them for sisters whilst they were taking photos and because of their kindness ended up hanging out with them for a portion of the day too. We ate lunch together and I listened to there conversations which truly made me laugh. I really wish I could've shot more days just to hang out with these girls!
Aimee then asked me if I wanted to come shoot
Raffles with her which I wasn't planning to but then figured I might as well seeing as this was such a huge opportunity! She tried to get us backstage but we couldn't :( I didn't realize there would be different designers in the show but it made it so interesting as I had no idea what to expect. I also located Emelie after losing her after We Are Handsome haha. There was such a range of designs and clothes there and I unfortunately didn't ge the names of all of them but they are such young talented people it amazes me!
As I headed back to the media room after Raffles I got a message from Sarah to check out the
Bronx and Banco show so I sped over just as it was about to begin. Unfortunately, it was not an easy show to shoot as the media pit was extremely full and the lighting wasn't great but still, the clothes and dresses were absolutely beautiful! They were really chic and simple and not only that but, the runway was set in such an interesting way where 2 models were on the runway at the same time so photographers were torn between both! That and, the runway was lined with a lot of candles :)
What I didn't realize was straight after Bronx and Banco I had to head over to
Watson X Watson straight away and NOTE TO SELF: Andrea, don't come too late to shows or you'll be faced with a very full and pushy media pit. I ended up squeezing myself up to Emelie and still managing to get good shots. I loved the different ways they had used plaid in their clothes but I wont lie, the show started late so I couldn't properly focus on my shots and the show as my body was in so much pain. Who knew lugging around a camera and walking around all day would be difficult and tiring. My back and feet hurt a whole bunch so I was so happy when the show ended and following a last minute decision to not shoot at Vanishing Elephant a whole 15 minutes walk out of Carriageworks, I began relaxing in the media room.
I ended the day relaxing with Emelie as we editted photos, taking some more street style photos and attempting my skills at networking which if I do say so myself seemed pretty fun and successful! My parents picked me up prepared with food to feed me and when I arrived home, I furiously editted, gave my sisters my freebies, uploaded and crashed. To say this day was amazing would be an understatement. I can't describe the feeling of doing the thing I love the most in the world for an entire day and knowing that people will see the product of all the hardwork and dedication. The atmosphere, the people I was so in love with everything! If only I had seen Baz, that would've made my day hands down!
